Recycling Water
Recycled Water Landscape IrrigationAdvanced Treatment for Multiple Uses
Thanks to the Facility’s advanced technology, Silicon Valley’s highly treated wastewater is recycled for many uses, saving an average of 2.2 billion gallons of drinking water per year.

More than 10 million gallons per day (mgd) of the Facility’s 99-percent-clean finished wastewater is distributed by South Bay Water Recycling (SBWR) to nearly 700 commercial customers in San José, Santa Clara, and Milpitas for commercial and agricultural irrigation, landscaping, cooling buildings, industrial processes, and paper manufacturing.

The Facility is also a partner in the Silicon Valley Advanced Water Purification Center, which has the capacity to treat an additional 8 mgd of finished Facility water with microfiltration, reverse osmosis and ultraviolet light technologies. This highly purified water is blended with tertiary-treated water for specific non-potable commercial and industrial uses.
