Google Fiber Project
Proposal to construct a fiber-to-the-premises (FTTP) infrastructure to provide communications services (including internet and video service) throughout the City of San Jose. The proposed Project includes the following components: The installation of approximately 2,300 miles of fiber optic cables (approximately 1,340 miles below ground and 960 miles aerial installation using existing utility poles); the installation of approximately ten Local Aggregation Sites either inside pre-fabricated communications shelters (fiber huts) or enclosed within existing commercial buildings; underground utility vaults and utility cabinets; and connections directly to customers. With the exception of the Local Aggregation Sites and connections to customers, the fiber cables, vaults, and cabinets will be located within existing public right-of-ways or easements.

The Google Fiber Project was approved by City Council on December 1, 2015.

Conditional Use/Planned Development Permits for Fiber Huts

PDA97-083-01 - Mexican Heritage Plaza Fiber Hut
A Planned Development Permit Amendment to allow the construction of a utility facility (communications services) and a backup generator on a 1.53 gross acre site.  The project includes the removal of three ordinance sized trees and the construction of a seven foot tall stucco wall enclosing the site.  

Location
Mexican Heritage Plaza, 1700 Alum Rock Avenue (APN 481-18-060).  Council District:  5.


CP15-075 - Blossom Hill Fiber Hut
A Conditional Use Permit to allow the installation of a telecommunications utility facility and an associated generator on a 0.61 gross acre site.  

Location
Adjacent to the Pacific Gas & Electric Co. easement at the southeast corner of Blossom Hill Road and Blossom Park Lane (APN 567-28-007).  Council District:  10.


CP15-077 - Guadalupe (West Mission) Fiber Hut
A Conditional Use Permit to allow the installation of a telecommunications utility facility and associated generator on an approximately 1.1 gross acre site.  Council District:  3.

Location
City-owned parking lot on the east side of Guadalupe Parkway, approximately 366 feet southerly of Mission Street (APN 259-06-065).
 


CP15-082 - Williams Road Fiber Hut
A Conditional Use Permit to allow the installation of a utility structure and associated generator, the removal of two ordinance-sized trees, and for the associated equipment to exceed the Zoning Ordinance performance standard by 15 dBA at a residentially-zoned property on a 7.84 gross acre site.  Council District:  1.

5090 Williams Road, at the southwest side of Williams Road, approximately 370 feet southerly of Moorpark Avenue (APN 381-19-025).  


CP15-076 – Hellyer Fiber Hut

Conditional Use Permit to allow the installation of a communications shelter (fiber hut) and an emergency backup generator on a 2.07 gross acre site.

Location
Undeveloped property located at the west side of Hellyer Avenue, approximately 1,010 feet southerly of intersection of Hellyer Avenue and Piercy Road (APN 678-08-047). Council District: 2.


CP15-079 – Lone Bluff Fiber Hut

Conditional Use Permit to allow the installation of a communications shelter and an emergency backup generator on a 6.17 gross acre site.

Location
Golf course maintenance yard at the intersection of Oldham Way and Lone Bluff Way, approximately 720 feet north of Senter Road (APN 497-46-001). Council District: 7.
