Overnight Warming Locations (OWL)
Overnight Warming Locations

The City of San José will open four Overnight Warming Locations (OWL) during periods of inclement weather between December 2017 and April 2018. 


OWL sites:

  • Tully Community Library, 880 Tully Road, San Jose, CA 95111;
  • Southside Senior Center, 5585 Cottle Road, San Jose, CA 95127;
  • Alum Rock Library, 3090 Alum Rock Avenue, San Jose, CA 95127; and,
  • Roosevelt Community Center, 901 E Santa Clara Street, San Jose, CA 95116.


OWL will use the following thresholds to trigger activation of one or more of the sites:

  • an overnight low of 38 degrees or lower with a probability of rain less than 50%; or
  • an overnight low of 42 degrees or lower with a probability of rain of 50% or greater; or
  • prolonged periods of rain with flooding in low-lying areas; or
  • 50% probability of rain for two or more days.
