Sport Fields & Tennis Courts

Did you know that San José has been ranked one of the fittest and most active cities in the U.S.? This may come as no surprise since San Jose has 82 tennis courts and 43 sports fields, including eight lighted fields. Even better is the fact that you can reserve these sports fields for your sponsored teams, leagues or organized play. Field reservations occur on a seasonal basis, so make sure to check out the links below to get the current dates and procedures on reserving your field or court.

Register and see a full listing of adult leagues.

To reserve a sport field or tennis court for league or organized sports activities contact the Field Reservations Unit at (408) 794-6527 or email and submit a Sports Field Application Form. The following attachments provide additional information regarding the reservation process. fields1.jpg

Know if the Game is On
Permit holders should call the Field Conditions Hotline at (408) 794-6532 to confirm the status of the fields. The hotline will be updated as conditions change. Citywide Sports staff will make updates by 2:00 p.m., Monday to Friday or by 8:00 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. In the event that the Field Conditions Hotline has not been updated or is unavailable, groups are expected to make educated and responsible decisions regarding field conditions.

Fields will be closed if any of the following conditions exist:
  • A steady rain is falling
  • Standing water
  • A lightning or electrical storm is occurring (evacuate the field immediately and seek shelter)
  • “Squishy” sound made or “spongy” feel when walking on the turf and/or footstep leaves an imprint in the turf
  • Have mud on the bottom of your shoes and/ or sod is removed easily with a cleat

It is very important when fields are closed that no play is allowed due to safety issues and the preservation of the turf.
