Welcome to CityCareers!
The City of San José's Human Resources Department is please to introduce CityCareers, our new cloud-based Taleo system for employment applications.

Here are some of the features of the new system that will streamline the candidate application experience:

  • Option to use LinkedIn or your resume to automatically fill parts of the online application for your work experience.
  • Ability to attach up to ten files to your employment profile.
  • A step-by-step visual confirmation throughout the application process will keep you clear on the progress of your application.

Most job openings with the City will still require the submittal of an online application through our CityCareers portal. Here are a few things you should know:

  • CityCareers is compatible with most web browsers, including Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox, and Chrome.
  • CityCareers is also accessible from mobile devices to review job listings and apply. (Some recruitments may require completion of detailed responses, for which a non-mobile device is recommended.)
  • Email is the default method of communication with applicants. To ensure that you receive timely notification regarding your application status, you must add your email address and telephone number in your CityCareers online application. Providing this information in an uploaded resume will not suffice. It is also recommended that you adjust any spam filters to ensure that you can receive emails from @sanjoseca.gov.
  • If your online application was successfully submitted, you will receive an automatic confirmation email to the email address you provided. If you do not receive the confirmation, please send an email and we will research the status of your application.

The Hiring Process
Once you've submitted your online application, please allow up to 3 weeks from the job announcement closing date to receive information regarding the status of your application.  Read more about the City's Standard Hiring process.

As you may have experienced in your work group, when a higher classification job opening is filled, a lower-level classification position in the same job series may become vacant.  Read more about the City's innovative Cascade Hiring process.
