CityJobs Transition Information - More to Come
CityJobs will become the better, more user-friendly CityCareers when our upgrade to the cloud-based Taleo platform goes live on Tuesday, September 6, 2016.

Here are some of the features of the new system that will streamline the application experience:

  • Option to use LinkedIn or your resume to automatically fill parts of the online application for your work experience.
  • Ability to attach up to ten files to your employment profile.
  • A step-by-step visual confirmation throughout the application process will keep you clear on the progress of your application.
  • As an added bonus, internal applicants will have the ability to access their internal candidate account from home more easily; and will have the option to set up profile information either prior to or at the time of their first job application using the new system.

To ensure a smooth transition, current applicants should log into their candidate profile in CityJobs before the system closes at 11:59 PM on August 30, 2016 and copy any information/documents that you might need for future job applications in the new CityCareers system.

Until the August 30, 2016 deadline, most job openings with the City will still require the submittal of an online application through our CityJobs portal.  Here are a few things you should know:

  • CityJobs is only compatible with Internet Explorer. Use of Safari, Firefox, Chrome or other browsers is discouraged.
  • Email is the default method of communication with applicants. To ensure that you receive timely notification regarding your application status, be sure to add your email address and telephone number in your CityJobs online application.  Providing this information in an uploaded resume will not suffice. It is also recommended that you adjust any spam filters to ensure that you can receive emails from @sanjoseca.gov.
  • If your online application was successfully submitted, you will receive an automatic email confirmation email to the email address you provided. If you do not receive the confirmation, please send an email and we will research the status of your application.
  • Please note the CityJobs application is routinely unavailable every Monday morning between 4:00 AM and 5:00 AM due to standard systems maintenance.

The Hiring Process
Once you've submitted your online application, please allow up to 3 weeks from the job announcement closing date to receive information regarding the status of your application.

As you may have experienced in your work group, when a higher classification job opening is filled, a lower-level classification position in the same job series may become vacant.  Read more about the City's innovative
Cascade Hiring process.
