Office of the City Auditor
The Role of the City Auditor's Office
The mission of the Office of the City Auditor is to independently assess and report on City operations and services. To fulfill this mission, we conduct performance audits that identify ways to strengthen public accountability, and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of City government.
Who We Work With
In providing independent, reliable, accurate, and timely information to the City Council, the general public, and other stakeholders, our office has helped save tax dollars, increase revenues, and improve the management of City and redevelopment agency programs. Additionally, our independent reviews have been important, objective information sources for the City Council, City administration, the redevelopment agency, and the general public.
In providing insight into City departments, offices, agencies, and their programs, our office is continuously connected with the City Council’s Public Safety, Finance, and Strategic Support Committee; the City Council; and the city manager.
Savings
Over the years, our office has played an integral role in preserving the City's fiscal resources. On average, for every $1 of audit costs, we have identified about $9 in cost savings and/or increased revenues.
