City Welcomes $56 million in Stimulus Funding

On September 28, Mayor Reed, Congresswoman Zoe Lofgen and Congressman Mike Honda proudly announced that the City of San José will be receiving $56 million in funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act! The funds will account for 400 jobs and jump-start City projects to repave streets, invest in renewable energy, provide affordable housing and offer job training for both youth and adults. Read More

Late Breaking News: Upon the Mayor’s return from Washington D.C., where he advocated for additional stimulus projects, the City learned that it had been awarded $20.9 million for a state-of-the-art, automated baggage screening system at the new Terminal B of San José International Airport.

Be Counted, San Jose!

United States Census 2010

This spring, the U.S. Census is back to count every person in the country. Data from the Census not only affects representation in Congress, it determines how $300 billion in funding is allocated to local governments. In fact, for every person who goes uncounted, our County alone loses about $1,200 each year!

Stand up and be counted, San José! When you receive your census form in the mail, spend 10 minutes to fill it out and make sure our City and County gets it fair share in funding. Your information remains confidential for 72 years and can not be shared with immigration or welfare agencies. Learn more about the 2010 Census, including how you can get involved!

Mayor Reed Urges Residents to Sign-Up for County's New Emergency Alert System

Alert SCC - Santa Clara County Emergency System

Mayor Reed has joined leaders from Santa Clara County and other local cities in unveiling Alert SCC – a new emergency alert that will help local officials communicate with the County’s 1.8 million residents when disaster strikes. While landlines have automatically been added to the system, cell phones and e-mail addresses must be registered individually to receive alerts. Make sure you stay informed the next time there’s a local emergency. Register all of your phones and e-mails today!

San Jose Receives New “Best City” Kudos

San Jose Photos

Adding to its accolades, San José has once again been honored as a great place to live. First, US News & World Report named San José as one of “America’s 10 Best Places to Grow Up.” Then in September, Money Magazine listed the city as one of the country’s 20 “Best Places for a Healthy Retirement” and a Wall Street Journal column placed San José #6 on their list of the “Next Hot Youth-Magnet Cities” in America!

Thanks to all of our local businesses, organizations and residents whose countless contributions have helped our city earn these distinct honors!
