Mayor Chuck Reed welcomed solar companies who responded to his challenge of providing solar energy systems to San Jose residents with no upfront cost. He made the challenge on April 9 at the 2008 California Clean Tech Open. The Department of Energy also used the Solar Fair to officially name San Jose as a Solar America City.
