Mayor Reed joined the Gardner Family Health Network to announce that it was chosen to participate in a state program to place physicians at clinics in underserved or rural communities. The Steven M. Thompson program gave out 16 grants this year, offering loan forgiveness to participating doctors throughout the state who commit to 3 years of service in underserved communities. The Mayor was joined at the event by state Assemblymembers Hector de la Torre (who spearheaded an effort to increase funding for the program), Joe Coto and Paul Fong, as well as San Jose City Councilmember Nora Campos.
