Council Agendas Council Meetings District Map San José Government |
City Council meetingsThe City Council generally meets every Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in the City Council Chambers located in City Hall, at 200 East Santa Clara Street. Public Hearings are generally held every other Tuesday evening on the first and third Tuesdays of the month, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
Addressing the City CouncilMembers of the public who wish to address the Council during a City Council meeting are required to fill out a "Request to Speak" card, and turn it in to the City Clerk seated near the podium before the start of the meeting. This pertains to all items on the Agenda, including items on the Consent Calendar and during the Public Hearing portion of the meetings, as well as for items to be discussed during the "Oral Communications" section of the agenda. By law, the Council is prohibited from taking formal action on items not listed on the Agenda. Therefore, items brought up for discussion under the "Oral Communications" portion of the meeting cannot be acted on by the City Council during that same meeting. In order for the City Council to take action on any items discussed under "Oral Communications," those items must be agendized for a subsequent meeting of the City Council and noticed according to the Brown Act. |
