Diridon Station Area Plan
What's New
See below for more information.
The City of San José, in coordination with the San José Redevelopment Agency, the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority, and other local and regional transportation agencies, are developing a plan for a half-mile radius around Diridon Station (approximately 500 acres of land). The objective of this process is to provide a vision and framework for higher intensity/transit-oriented development (TOD) in the area. We invite you to play an active role in shaping this vision.
The process involves developing a Station Area Plan around Diridon Station with related transit and station-area planning activities, and includes environmental clearance under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). Diridon Station, already a major transit hub, with its location along the Union Pacific/Caltrain/Amtrak/Altamont Commuter Express (ACE) rail corridors, will become one of the busiest multimodal stations in California as a station of the proposed BART extension to Silicon Valley and the California High Speed Rail corridor (HSR) to San Francisco and Los Angeles.
The Diridon Station Area Plan will provide a vision and guidance for this unique destination with a broad mix of transit-supportive uses. In addition, the Plan anticipates pedestrian, bicycle, open space, and street connections from the greater downtown and surrounding neighborhoods.
Community Workshop to develop the Preferred Plan for the Diridon Station Area
On Saturday, August 7, 2010 a community workshop was held at City Hall to provide the community with an opportunity to review the staff and consultant work to date on the development of the Preferred Plan for the Diridon Station Area. Community members then asked to provide input to further develop and complete the Draft Preferred Alternative. The developing Preferred Plan builds upon the input received at the March Alternatives Analysis Workshop below and the Alternatives Analysis Report completed in mid July. To view the draft preferred plan discussed, please click on the presentation link below.

Previous Alternatives Development Workshop
On Saturday, March 27, 2010, a Community Workshop was held at City Hall to develop a Preferred Alternative for the Diridon Station Area Plan. As part of this process, three conceptual alternatives were presented to facilitate community discussions on which elements of each should be refined and included in the Preferred Alternative. Existing Conditions Report
As part of the planning process, an existing conditions report was prepared for the Diridon Station Area Plan. This report covers a wide range of existing conditions in Diridon including historic resources, land use and urban design, transportation and circulation, and existing and planned transit services. The report also includes a market demand analysis for different types of development. To review the report, click on the Existing Conditions Report.
Alternative Analysis Report
This Diridon Station Area Plan Alternatives Analysis Report contains a summary of the three project alternatives that were developed as part of the Planning process, and a description of heir relative merits that will serve as a basis to develop a preferred plan for the Diridon Station Area. The Analysis Report builds upon the Existing Conditions Report (link to report), published in March 2010, and analyzes the expansion of the existing Diridon Station and the development of land uses within the 250 acre project boundary surrounding the station. The evaluation of the project alternatives and the subsequent development of a preferred plan will become the basis for the City of San Jose to establish regulations, implementation strategies and design guidelines to encourage appropriate transit-oriented development within the Diridon Station Area.
