Welcome to the General Plan Diagram web page. The General Plan Land Use/Transportation Diagram is a part of the San Jose 2020 General Plan and gives geographic reference and a spatial context to the goals and policies of the General Plan. The Diagram also illustrates the inextricable link between land use and the transportation network.

This web page contains the Diagram and directions to access and download it. Please note that the official copy of the Diagram is located at the San Jose Department of Planning, Building and Code Enforcement. For map sales information, please click here.

This is one of a series of diagrams which, when combined with the text of the San Jose 2020 General Plan, constitute the physical development policy of the City of San Jose. Allowable land uses for specific parcels of land cannot be determined solely by reference to the Diagram.

What is the format of the General Plan diagram?

The General Plan diagram is in Adobe Acrobat .pdf format. The .pdf format allows the user to zoom in and view additional detail, without any loss of quality from the original map. The citywide General Plan diagram is 34x44 inches in size, which allows for printing on large format plotters. This large size also gives the ability to display street name detail by zooming in on the screen using the magnifying glass icon.

Don't have Adobe Acrobat? Download it here!

*Please note that Java Script must be enabled in your browser for you to view these maps*

If I want a more detailed map of a specific area, where can I find it?

Below is a simplified map of the City of San Jose that is divided into three sections; North, Middle and South. Select a section to proceed to a page with a more detailed grid system. Select the grid number for the area you are seeking, and your .pdf map will download.

What if the area I am seeking is identified as a "Specific Plan/Planned Community"?

If the area you are seeking is identified as a Specific Plan/Planned Community, a specific land use plan and map are available separately. Please select from the list below to retrieve the map you need, and also visit our Specific Plans page for more information on land uses in these areas.
