Stormwater Management

Home

Per City Council Policy 6-29, Post Construction Urban Runoff Management, all new and redevelopment projects must include a Stormwater Control Plan with Best Management Practices (BMPs) to treat stormwater runoff prior to it entering the storm drain system. If the project includes the creation, modification or replacement of 10,000 square feet (or more) of impervious surface, the project must be designed to have hydraulically sized Treatment Control Measures that meet the numeric standards included in Policy 6-29.

Refer to the application instructions for a Stormwater Control Plan, Grading and Drainage Plan and Landscaping Plan for all requirements.

Proposals using only mechanical devices as the sole treatment measure do not meet the Maximum Extent Practicable (MEP) standard discussed in Policy 6-29 and the Santa Clara Valley Urban Runoff Pollution Prevention Program (SCVURPPP) guidelines. Landscape based stormwater Treatment Control Measures should be emphasized over mechanical treatment devices.

Design solutions for landscape-based stormwater Treatment Control Measures and Source Control Measures are available online at: www.cabmphandbooks.com and/or www.eoainc.com/c3_handbook_final_may2004/

Projects that create, replace or modify one acre (or more) of impervious surface may also be subject to the requirements of City Council Policy 8-14, Post-Construction Hydromodification Management.

For more information, contact the Planning Department by calling (408) 535-3555.
