UPCOMING COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP ACADEMY (CLA)
NDC Community Café – Tuesday, August 30, 2005, 6:30 – 8:30 PM. This quarter’s topic is Membership
Recruitment and Retention. Come
and meet other neighborhood leaders and participate in a conversation on this
topic that all of us struggle with. How

San José Beautiful and
Grant Writing 101 Workshop –
Wednesday, August 31, 2005, 6:30 – 8:30 PM.
Our very own Margaret Wagenet will be on hand to provide information on
the upcoming San José Beautiful grants that are due on September 31, 2005. In addition, we have neighborhood leader,
Clark Williams, who will provide us with tips on writing award-winning

Don’t forget that National
Night Out is tonight, Tuesday, August 2nd. Many of our neighborhoods are having events in our parks,
community centers, and out in our streets.
Be sure to turn on your porch light and join over 34 million people
nationwide and over 6000 residents throughout San José in celebrating America’s
Night Out Against Crime! [TOP]

opportunities your organization may be interested in applying for:
San José Beautiful Grants
San José Beautiful grants
are due on September 30, 2005. If you have been toying around with the idea of
a beautification project, start putting your thoughts down on paper to prepare
for the grant application! We will host a CLA training to help guide you
through the grant writing process. For more information and to request an

Community
Foundation of Silicon Valley (CFSV)
Community
Foundation of Silicon Valley announced its new grant guidelines and website on
July 5th. Under the new Community Investment Program, CFSV’s cash grants
program includes three grant programs designed to provide financial support and
technical assistance to exemplary community organizations. These grants include
the Community Investment Grants, Organizational Effectiveness Grant, and the
Neighborhood Grants Program. The next
quarterly Community Investment Grant deadline is September 1. Click HERE for more information. [TOP]
The
Neighborhood Development Center would like to welcome the Dove Hill
Neighborhood Association. At its July
27th meeting, they adopted their bylaws and voted in their interim board
members. The Dove Hill Neighborhood
boundaries are Silver Creek Road to Highway 101 and Marsh Manor to Yerba Buena
Road.
If you’re interested, the NDC provides technical assistance and training to groups wishing to form a neighborhood association. In addition, we provide coaching, facilitation, board and membership training, and other resources to assist all neighborhood associations in their efforts in maintaining and improving their neighborhood quality of life. Community Center is Here – Volunteer tour guides needed!
In mid-June, City employees
began moving into the new City Hall located at 200 E. Santa Clara Street and
making it home. Tours and events will

PUBLIC HEARING – Smoke-Free Public Parks
On Wednesday, August 3, 2005 at 5:00 PM, the Parks and Recreation Commission is soliciting public testimony on the issue of smoke-free parks. This public hearing will take place at the Old City Hall, 801 North First Street, Room 300. A recommendation to the City Council from the Commission will be forthcoming at its September 7, 2005 meeting. For additional information, please contact 793-5510. [TOP]
