Youth Commission - History

History
The San José Youth Commission was founded by Robert Stroughter in 1969 and was later established by the San Jose City Council in January of 1971 in response to petitions by the youth in the area. These petitions called for the development of a system where young people can become involved in the decision making process of the city.

The Youth Commission is the official youth advisory group of the City Council and the department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services. In addition, the Commission educates the community on youth issues and helps to develop new programs and services to satisfy the needs of the youth.
