City of San José Reuse Program
What is Community Center Reuse?
Council Policy 7-12, Community Center Reuse, allows use of selected community and neighborhood centers at no charge in return for services that benefit San José residents.
Is There a Cost?
No. The City pays for the cost of routine building maintenance, major systems repair, and normal utility use.
What Type of Uses are There?
Facility use is available for occasional and multi-year uses.
Occasional Use
• Use is on a space as-available basis and includes daytime or evening meetings, monthly meetings, and single-event community uses.
Multi-year Use
• Multi-year use is for up to three years if the Reuse facility is on park property, and up to five years if the Reuse facility is not on park property.
• Multi-year applicants must go through a competitive Request for Proposal selection process.
• Multi-year users are subject to a formal user agreement between the City of San José and the user.
Who Can Use Community Center Reuse Facilities?
Santa Clara County-based groups can use Reuse facilities. These include:
• Nonprofit Groups
• Neighborhood Associations
• School Districts
• Government Agencies
Who Cannot Use Community Center Reuse Facilities?
Community Center Reuse facilities are not available to:
• Users engaged in political activities (excluding nonpartisan use for polling sites, voter registration, voter education) and
• Religious organizations engaged in activities that promote sectarian or religious purposes.

What Community Center Reuse Facilities are Available?
The City has 17 facilities on its existing Community Center Reuse list. Please click here to see a list of the Reuse facilities and existing users.
On July 1, 2010, six facilities became available for Reuse. (Please click here to see more information about each facility.)
• Los Paseos Youth and Family Center, Council District 2
• St. James Senior Center, Council District 3
• Northside Community Center, Council District 3
• Capital Park/Goss Neighborhood Center, Council District 5
• Hank Lopez Community Center, Council District 5
• Alma Youth/Senior Center, Council District 7
In the months leading up to July 1, 2010, the PRNS Department will conduct a Request for Proposal (RFP) to find alternate service providers for these facilities. Please check back often for updated RFP information.
