About the Commission

The San José youth Commission is an appointed body of 11 youth, 14-20 years old, modeled after the City of San José, City Council. They are recognized as the official youth advisory group to the City Council and the Department of Park, Recreation and Neighborhood Services. Youth Commissioners are involved with policy recommendations concerning youth. They support the development of youth who desire to serve their community through active civic participation and constructive decision-making by maintaining a Youth Advisory Council in their district. Time commitment for Youth Commission is anywhere between 15-20 hours a month.

Youth Advisory Council

A Youth Advisory Council (YAC) is an active group of youth, 14-20 years of age who dedicate their time, talent and ideas to promote positive change in their community. YAC members identify and tackle youth issues, host special events, participate in volunteer activities and address the needs of their district residents. There is one official Youth Advisory Council in each San Jose council district. Time commitment for the YAC is anywhere between 2-5 hours a month.
