Camden Multi-Service Community Center is bordered by Curtner Avenue to the north, Bascom Avenue to the west, Union Avenue to the east and Camden Avenue to the south. Located within a residential and commercial business area. The existing community center and park site is approximately 10.2 acres.

In November 2000, the voters of the City of San José passed Bond Measure "P" that allocated funds for City Capital Projects. The Camden Multi-Service Community Center Project was one of the nine community centers to be funded for improvements. The Steinberg Group was retained to provide programming and master planning services for the project.

In January 2002, Council approved the master plan amendment to the Camden Multi-Service Community Center. Immediately after the approval of the master plan amendment, staff negotiated an agreement with the Steinberg Group to start architectural design for the first phase development. Council approved the final consultant agreement on April 16, 2002.

Construction was started in January 2003 and estimated completion of construction is February 2005.

The first phase development of the Camden Multi-Service Community Center Project will include a multi-purpose building, administrative office addition, teen room/classroom building, and other miscellaneous site improvements. Approximately 21,700 square feet of new construction will be added to the site
