New City Council District Boundaries Established
Every 10 years after population figures are released by the Census Bureau, the City establishes new boundaries for each City Council district to ensure equal
representation for all San Jose citizens.
After consideration of a report and recommendations from the Redistricting Advisory Commission, on August 21, 2001 the City Council approved an ordinance that established new boundaries for City Council districts based
on the 2000 U. S. Census. The boundaries determine which City
Council district represents each resident. To ensure that community interests and issues were considered as part of the redistricting process, the City held twelve public meetings from March to August at various locations in the City.
The map and data below reflect the Redistricting Plan approved by the City Council.
