Supervisors
Prior to receiving recycled water, the site must be
permitted by South Bay Water Recycling (SBWR). In general, a permit will
be granted after the following steps have been completed. For further
assistance, call SBWR at (408) 277-3671.
Plan Submittal and Approval
- Fill out an Application
for Recycled Water Service form and submit it with your project
design plans to your Recycled Water Retailer.
As part of your submittal, please also include an 8 1/2" by 11"
site plan (see example) showing:
- The irrigated use area with shading or cross-hatching;
- The geographic location with north arrow showing major cross-streets/intersections;
- Points of connection/meters for all sources of water (including
all potable water appurtenances within the recycled water use area
or within 10 ft. of the recycled water use area, including drinking
fountains, water features, wells, meters, backflow prevention devices,
hydrants, etc.;
- Locations of all recycled water advisory signs for the project.
- The construction plans will be reviewed to ensure that the design
conforms to existing rules and regulations, and that the appropriate
SBWR Standard Notes and Details have been incorporated prior to receiving
approval from both SBWR and California Department of Health Services
(DHS). All work must conform to existing regulations, including but
not limited to:
- SBWR Rules and Regulations;
- State Department of Health Services requirements;
- Water Retailer requirements.
Inspection
- Inspection by SBWR has been completed confirming conformance with
approved plans, including but not limited to, the following:
- Presence of appropriate backflow prevention devices;
- New underground piping (including but not limited to: pipe labeling,
clearances, burial depth, sleeves, special requirements, etc.);
- Installation of signs, tags, and controller decals;
- Verify utility separation (see #4 below)
- New meter installation (see #5 below);
- Passed coverage test
- Site has passed the required cross-connection
test, performed by a certified AWWA
cross-connection specialist in coordination with the SBWR inspector.
No physical connections between the potable and recycled water systems
are permitted.
Retailer Service Meter
- Recycled water meters will be set by the local water utility after:
- The site's owner, developer, or contractor has applied for recycled
water service with the local water utility, the water service agreement
(if required) has been approved, and any applicable fees have been
paid.
- The water utility has received authorization from SBWR to set
recycled water meters.
Customer Training
- The owner's or tenant's representative has completed a site
supervisor training class offered by SBWR.
