It’s time for your neighborhood to come clean!
Overview
Adopt-A-Street is a program that provides businesses, organizations, neighborhood associations and individuals the opportunity to partner with the City to make the community a better and more beautiful by selecting an area along a street right-of-way to beautify and maintain.
Program Objective
The objective of the Adopt-A-Street Program is to provide an attractive and clean environment for the community by utilizing volunteers to assist with routine maintenance tasks and services. With greater community involvement, the program will enable City staff to concentrate on the more technical aspects of maintenance operations and work in high traffic areas not suitable for volunteers.
Adopt-A-Street is a great way to clean up our environment
and show community pride by working together for a common goal.
Who can adopt a street?
Anyone who has the enthusiasm and dedication to make our community a better place to live can adopt a street! We welcome neighborhood associations, community groups, schools, church groups, seniors, youth groups, and individuals to join our efforts to clean up San José.
What can I do as a volunteer?
Volunteers help care for their adopted area in the following ways: picking up litter; removing graffiti; raking leaves; removing weeks; sweeping; watering plants; and more!
We provide supplies, tools and support.
Adopt-A-Street will provide all the necessary supplies and tools appropriate for your scope of work. Orange reflective vests and traffic cones will also be provided as needed. Staff will also provide training and support for services such as delivery of materials and debris removal.
How do I sign up to adopt a street?
Adopting a street is as easy as 1-2-3! Just begin with these simple steps:
- Contact the City’s Department of Transportation at (408) 975-7174 with a request to adopt a street or landscape area on a public right-of-way.
- Sign and return the “Volunteer Service Agreement” and Adopt-A-Street Agreement” forms. (If you are under 18 years of age, you must have a parent or guardian signature on the “Volunteer Service Agreement.”)
- We will review your request and contact you.
- City staff will train you to do the tasks for which you have volunteered.
