San José recently received a bronze-level "Bicycle Friendly Communities" award from the League of American Bicyclists. Since the award’s inception, fewer than 100 communities in the United States have received an award. The national program conducts extensive audits of cities bicycle programs and facilities. San Jose’s existing bike network includes 200 miles of bike lanes, trails, and routes. Our long-term vision calls for a total network of 500 miles. We look forward to obtaining silver, gold, and eventually platinum-level Bicycle Friendly Community designation.
