Bike Skills Classes

The City of San Jose offers free Bicycling Skills Classes approximately four times per year. Courses are designed for adults (and teenagers accompanied by an adult) who want to improve their bicycling skills and knowledge.

Participants must already know how to ride a bicycle. Topics covered include:

  • Traffic laws and how they apply to bicyclists.
  • Basic skills such as signaling, changing lanes, merging, riding at night.
  • How to take a bike on public transit.
  • What to look for when buying a bike.
  • Selecting a route to ride.
  • Fixing a flat tire and other basic bike repairs.

San Jose’s free Bicycling Skills Classes are based on the Road 1 course from the League of American Bicyclists “BikeEd” program.

To request email notice when the next class date is set, email bike.ped@sanjoseca.gov with an email message to that effect
