San José recently received a bronze-level "Bicycle Friendly Communities" award from the League of American Bicyclists. Since the award’s inception, only 69 communities in the United States have received an award. The national program conducts extensive audits of cities bicycle programs and facilities. San José’s existing bicycle network includes more than 140 miles of Bike Lanes, 40 miles of bike trails, and 16 miles of bike routes. When completed, the citywide Bicycle Network will include roughly 270 miles of on-street bikeways and 130 miles of off-street trails. Congratulations San José on your bronze Bicycle Friendly Communities award for 2006-2008. Learn more about the Bicycle Frendly Communities program http://www.bikeleague.org/programs/communities/
