Bike Racks: Public bicycle racks are installed
in various locations throughout the City of San Jose.
The City regularly seeks grant funding to install additional
public bike racks. Generally, bicycle racks may only be installed
in locations that meet the following criteria
- In the public right of way (usually on a City sidewalk,
at a City park, or outside a City building)
- On a hard surface (usually a sidewalk or paved pathway)
- Clear of pedestrian travel ways (generally must maintain
4 feet clear width for pedestrians)
- Four feet clear of driveways, utility access boxes, fire
hydrants, bus stops, etc.
- Three feet clear of curbs where parallel car parking is
allowed.
Generally, any proposed bike rack location must provide a
clear area of 3 feet by 8 feet AND meet all the criteria above.
Send any requests for bike racks installations to bike.ped@sanjoseca.gov.
Bike
