Citation Processing and Adjudication (On-Street)

When a parking citation is issued, it must be paid or contested within 21 days. As a courtesy, if a citation has not been paid or contested, a reminder notice will be mailed to the registered owner of the vehicle after 15 days.

To Pay a Citation

* On-line: You can pay for your citation on-line by following this link: Citation On-line Payment

* By Mail: Please mail a check or money order (payable to the City of San José) for the amount indicated on the citation or the reminder notice to:

Please do not send cash and remember to write the citation number on the check or money order.

The envelope provided with the citation or the reminder notice should be used.

To Contest a Citation

Citations may be contested in writing, by telephone or by appearing in person at the Office of Parking Violations at the address above. When requesting an initial review, please be prepared to describe why the citation is invalid or why it should be dismissed, and provide any documentation that supports this request. Request should be mailed to:

Citations that are not paid or contested within the above timelines will incur additional penalties and will no longer be eligible for contesting.
