Meter Program (On-Street) There are approximately 2,300 on-street parking meters in the City of San José. Half of these are located in the Downtown. The other half are located in the Civic Center, Japantown, San Jose Medical Center, and San Jose State University areas. Parking Meters The City of San José currently has two types of meters
mechanical and electronic. Mechanical meters require that the knob on
the face of the meter be turned clockwise after each coin is inserted.
Electronic meters do not have a knob and only require the coin to be inserted.
Both types of meters are carefully programmed to provide the correct amount
of time for each coin. Hours and Days of Operation Parking Meters except those in Japantown are in operation Monday through Saturday, 9AM to 6PM, except City Holidays. Japantown – Monday through Saturday, 9AM to 5PM, except City Holidays. City Holidays
