SERVICES | SEWER There are two separate sewer systems, the sanitary sewer and the storm sewer. The sanitary sewer system carries wastewater from homes and businesses to the City's sewage treatment plant at the south end of the San Francisco Bay. The storm system collects runoff water from the street and carries it to the creeks and the rivers, which drain into the San Francisco Bay. Both sewer systems are maintained by the Department of the Transportation, 24 hours a day, year round. If you have a sewer problem, you can call us at 408-277-4373 at any time. Our normal business hours are 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. An emergency dispatcher is available outside our normal business hours. CITY OF SAN JOSE'S SANITARY SYSTEM MANAGEMENT PLAN(SSMP) City of San José is in the process of compiling its sanitary sewer construction, maintenance and operations information into one comprehensive document referred to as the Sanitary System Management Plan(SSMP), as required by the California Water Resources Control Board. The plan consists of 11 elements that will identity all the activities, policies, procedures, and ordinances regarding the sanitary system. The City is actively seeking input from public during the preparation, and for future improvements, of this SSMP. Please click below to review the draft Management Plan. |
