To provide an efficient and effective transportation
system in the region that enhances the quality of life of the residents
of San José.
Operational Services
Regional
Highway Projects
This service coordinates and plans regional highway projects. Coordination
with regional transportation agencies helps to promote City goals and
objectives and provide expanded transit options to City residents.
Regional
Transit Projects
This service coordinates with regional transportation planning organizations
to promote City goals and objectives. Major activities include the BART
extension to San José, Transit studies, and California High Speed Rail.
Major
Roadway (Arterials)
An arterial is a street which accommodates major movements of traffic
not served by expressways and freeways. It is designed mainly for the
movement of through traffic. The number of lanes depends on the function
of the arterial, its location, and the volume of traffic it is expected
to handle.
Bicycle
and Pedestrian Programs
This service enhances the livability and quality of life for the residents
of San José by expanding bicycle and pedestrian components of our
General Plan.
Transportation Funding Grants
This service obtains funding from other agencies for City transportation
projects and programs. Major grant programs include State, Federal, and
regional programs.
Traffic Capital Improvement Program
This service manages the preparation and implementation of the City's
Traffic Capital Budget and 5-year Capital Improvement Program.
