SERVICES | SEWER | SANITARY SEWER CLEANING | REQUESTING SERVICE

To keep all the sanitary lines clear and flowing, our crews clean, inspect and repair lines under our preventative maintenance program. Our crews also respond to sewer spills 24 hours a day.

To report a sanitary sewer problem, call us at 408-277-4373

Tell us the nature and location of the problem (with an address if possible), your name and address, and a phone number for the follow-up information.

What will the city crew do?

1) Our crews will first check the sanitary manholes in the street to determine if there is a problem in the main line.

2) If there is a main line problem, the crews will clear it and then check the address of the initial problem. If there is a problem at the address, which was caused by the main line blockage, the crews will try and correct it. If the crew is unable to completely clear your sanitary lateral, the City will provide a plumbing service to clear any remaining problems at no cost to you.

3) If there is no problem in the main line, the crews will check the address of the initial complaint.

A. If an approved "wye" cleanout is located at the address, the crews will check the sanitary lateral and clear it between the cleanout and the main line. If the problem is between the building and the cleanout, the crews notify the resident that the City will not clear the blockage and that it's the owner's responsibility to correct the problem.

B. If no "wye" cleanout is found, the crew will notify the resident that the blockage is the responsibility of the property owner. If the resident can not be contacted, the crew will leave an informational flyer, which explains the crew's findings.

What are my options if the lateral line is blocked or broken and I don't have a have an approved "wye" cleanout?

1) If the problem is between the main line in the street and five feet back of the sidewalk you may:

  • Have a "wye" cleanout installed, after which the City will repair the lateral at no charge.
  • Hire a plumber to repair the line.
  • Repair the line yourself.
  • Pay the fee to have the City install a wye cleanout and repair the lateral

2) If the problem is between 5 feet back of the sidewalk and the building, it's your responsibility, regardless if you have a cleanout or not. You'll probably need to hire a plumbing service or repair it yourself.
