TRANSPORTATION OPERATIONS | SIGNALS - SILICON VALLEY SMART CORRIDOR

SV-ITS Airport Project

It is anticipated that an additional 10,000,000 passengers will be utilizing the San Jose International Airport by the year 2010. This will result in over 17,000,000 passengers flying out of the airport. The City of San Jose adopted an Airport Master Plan in 1997 to provide a phased program of facility improvements to accommodate the airport's projected growth.

The SV-ITS team is working to develop projects that will help manage increase in traffic during the construction phases and completion of the Airport Facility. The SV-ITS team recently received a $2,000,000 grant to develop the City of San Jose - Advanced Traffic Management System (CSJ-ATMS).

The CSJ-ATMS will provide traffic improvements around the airport facility. Improvements will include the design and construction of a new traffic signal communications network, the deployment of CCTV and stationary cameras, a link to kiosks within the airport and the deployment of Changeable Message Signs to direct traffic around the airport during incident traffic.
