TRANSPORTATION OPERATIONS | SIGNALS - SILICON VALLEY SMART CORRIDOR

Project Location

The corridor is 15 miles in length, and is comprised of Highway 17/Interstate 880 from the City of Milpitas to the Town of Los Gatos in Santa Clara County (Figure 1). In addition, local arterials and expressways such as Bascom Ave. and San Tomas Expwy., parallel the corridor and accounts for a critical part of the corridor's transportation network. They carry large volumes of local traffic, provide feeder routes to and from the freeway, provide diversion routes when incidents impede the freeway, as well as carry bus and light rail transit vehicles. The Smart Corridor will not actively divert freeway traffic onto these roadways but will install the tools necessary to coordinate signal operations and improve the flow of traffic on these roadways during freeway incidents.
