The Department of Human Resources has a goal to deliver innovative and timely human resources services and leadership to the City of San José; its employees and departments. The belief is also that in order to provide world class municipal services to our diverse residents and visitors, a healthy and motivated workforce is essential. Consequently, a comprehensive citywide wellness program can provide necessary steps; services and support to employees who wish to voluntarily participate in such a program. By securing senior level support, creating a dedicated wellness team, researching and collecting organizational data, and finalizing an operating plan, the wellness program will be implemented and administered in the workplace to support health initiatives and encourage healthy habits that can last a lifetime. Promoting healthier lifestyles and attaining health objectives is possible through increased employee health education, hands-on strategies, supportive physical environments, follow-up interventions and regular evaluation of the program's efforts.
Our mission is to provide a positive, educational, and supportive work environment in which employee wellness is a priority. Through efforts to encourage city employees to learn about and participate in healthy lifestyle choices, we hope to build a framework that will allow each individual to live a healthier, happier, and more productive life at work and in their personal lives.
