The free Seasonal Flu shot events for City of San José employees and retirees have been cancelled due to insufficient seasonal flu vaccine. The Santa Clara County Public Health Department reports that they are currently experiencing a shortage of the seasonal flu vaccine. This shortage is expected to be temporary and is a result of both increased public demand for the seasonal flu vaccine and a shift in prioritizing the production of H1N1 Flu vaccine for all flu vaccine manufacturers.
The City is canceling all of the worksite seasonal flu events, beginning with those scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday, Nov. 3. When the vaccine becomes available, Human Resources will contact departments to reschedule work-site vaccination events. (Note: H1N1 vaccinations will not be available at the City’s worksite seasonal flu events.) Watch for more information via Citywide e-mail.
City of San José employees enrolled in Blue Shield are encouraged to contact their doctor directly as seasonal flu vaccine availability will vary by provider. Employees enrolled in Kaiser Permanente are encouraged to call the Kaiser Permanente Flu Vaccination Hotline. As of Nov. 2, seasonal flu shots were still available through the Kaiser Flu Shot Clinics.
