Favorite Trees of Parks - Rainbow Park

Favorite Trees of Parks-CD1

Once a month we will be discussing noteworthy trees within the San José Parks system. This month, we will be
looking at an Eastern Redbud in Rainbow Park, in City Council District 1. This particular specimen caught our attention because it is standing with a 35° lean. In early spring this species sends out a canopy full of pink flowers, followed by heart-shaped leaves. The flowers fall and give rise to legume seed pods that eventually dry and cling to the tree well into fall, providing multi-seasonal interest. This tree looks like the wind tried to take it away one day and it decided to root itself firmly as if to say I'm not going anywhere! For more information on Eastern Redbuds you can check out the Cal Poly SelecTree website.
