Tree of the Month - Ceanothus 'Ray Hartman'

Posted on November 9, 2018 at 8:37 AM by Colin Heyne

Ceanothus 'Ray Hartman'

The Tree of the Month for November is Ceanothus ‘Ray Hartman’ or the Mountain Lilac. It is native to California and was originally discovered in the backyard garden of Ray Hartman in Saratoga, California in the 1940s. This species is known for its showy fragrant indigo flowers. It is extremely drought tolerant and sensitive to over watering. The Ray Hartman cultivar is a favorite of birds, bees, and butterflies as well as a great wildlife species in general. For more information check out the Cal Poly SelecTree website.
