Happy Hollow Zookeeper Recognized with Lifetime Achievement Award

Happy Hollow Park & Zoo’s curator, Heather Vrzal, received the 2019 American Association of Zookeepers (AAZK) Lifetime Achievement Award for her role in providing outstanding animal care during her 30-plus years at Happy Hollow, and 37 total years as a zookeeper. Vrzal has helped Happy Hollow maintain continuous accreditation by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums for over 25 years - working in all areas of the zoo, and coordinating with veterinary staff, zookeepers, animal trainers, and Species Survival Plan program coordinators. Animal welfare is a critical part of modern professional animal care, and thousands of animals, big and small, have benefited from Vrzal’s many years of dedication to the field. Heather was also awarded the AAZK Change Makers Medal of Honor. For more information, contact Justin Long, PRNS Deputy Director, at 408-793-5579.
