Authorized Construction & Demolition Haulers

The City of San José administers a non-exclusive franchise for debris haulers. Only those haulers with prior City approval are authorized to haul temporary waste bins.

This program specifically applies to those projects generating construction and demolition debris (demolition projects, new construction and alterations) or residential clean outs (i.e., garage and moving clean outs).

For San José residents, free Junk Pickup is available to discard a few large household items. A debris box of some size may be required for major clean out projects. Other alternatives include:

  • Donating items still in good condition to friends, neighbors, or a non-profit
  • Self-hauling junk items to a nearby landfill

Haulers found operating in San José without City authorization are subject to fines. If you are interested in becoming a non-exclusive hauler for residential clean-outs and construction and demolition debris review our Non-Exclusive Hauler requirements and application process.
