July is National Parks & Recreation Month

This year, National Parks and Recreation month comes at a time when San José PRNS has been critically involved in many aspects of the COVID-19 crisis response, from distributing food and necessities to tirelessly maintaining parks and trails so that everyone can enjoy the outdoors for their physical and mental health. Our foundation is people – parks and recreation professionals who are dedicated and passionate about delivering our vision: Healthy Communities that Inspire Belonging. We invite you to take “A Walk in the Park,” a podcast series featuring our PRNS team as they share their stories of providing the community with essential services.

Try-It-Out Thursday: Daily Recommendations for Recreation

The only failure is not trying! That thing you've been meaning to do... GO FOR IT!

The Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services will be providing recommended activities to do within the comfort of your home through the Virtual Recreation Center.

Here are some recommended activities related to inspiring creativity and trying new things at home:

LIVE Story Time with Valley Water – The Story of The Little Blue Hen

Thursday, 7/2at 9:30 a.m.

Join Valley Water’s Education Outreach team to hear the story of the Little Blue Hen! You will learn how she and her friends save water every day and also how Valley Water can help you and your family save water every day too! More information here

Drawing Garden Birds How to Draw Garden Birds: Learn how to capture the form and feeling of sparrows, warblers and other common songbirds with fast and efficient lines. Learn key anatomical details to help you draw them accurately in the field or in the studio. How to Draw Waterbirds: Learn the key foundation lines for drawing waterfowl and wading birds. Draw ducks in and out of the water and learn tricks to show the shape of long legs and necks on herons, egrets, and shorebirds. We will also study the way that feather groups overlap to simplify the plumage. How to Draw Raptors: Learn to draw hawks, eagles, and owls. In this workshop we will explore how to sketch perched raptors and learn to draw the birds from the front, side, and 3/4 view.

Recycle Hanging Planters
Create a cute hanging planter from recycled bottles.
