July is National Parks & Recreation Month

This year, National Parks and Recreation month comes at a time when San José PRNS has been critically involved in many aspects of the COVID-19 crisis response, from distributing food and necessities to tirelessly maintaining parks and trails so that everyone can enjoy the outdoors for their physical and mental health. Our foundation is people – parks and recreation professionals who are dedicated and passionate about delivering our vision: Healthy Communities that Inspire Belonging. We invite you to take “A Walk in the Park,” a podcast series featuring our PRNS team as they share their stories of providing the community with essential services.

Tasty Tuesday: Daily Recommendations for Recreation

Take a break, try out recipes, and indulge in food and your health today. Life is about exploring pasta-bilities! Happy National Macaroni Day!

The Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services will be providing recommended activities to do within the comfort of your home through the Virtual Recreation Center.

TAsty Tuesday Activities

Try out new recipes or do activities to improve your health. Here are some recommended activities:

“OLE SKOOL” Southern Baked Mac n Cheese

July 7 is National Macaroni Day!

Here is a yummy “Ole Skool” macaroni and cheese recipe. What is your favorite way to eat macaroni?

Ingredients:

  • 32 0z chicken stock (or more depending on how much you’re making)
  • 3 1/2 cups elbow pasta
  • 8 cups of cheese of choice
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 3 eggs
  • 3/4 cup sour cream
  • Seasonings such as paprika, salt , pepper (taste as you mix and adjust the seasonings!)
  • 1 stick of butter ( plus a little More to grease the pan)

Note: only cook the pasta until it still has a little bite to it about 7-8 minutes .. the pasta will continue to cook once it is placed in the oven to bake

Dancing Daisy Pasta Puppet

Create a fun dancing Daisy puppet using: Pasta noodles

  • Wooden beads
  • Apple Barrel
  • Acrylic Craft Paint (green & yellow)
  • Paintbrushes
  • Green pipe cleaners
  • White paper or cardstock
  • Scissors
  • Black marker
  • Wooden skewer
  • String or elastic cord
  • Hot glue gun
Fried Pasta Chips
 Genius! Bow tie pasta is fried to a golden crisp for dunking in your favorite dip/s. Enjoy!
