San José’s Diridon Station is the primary transit station in the South San Francisco Bay and will soon become one of the nation’s busiest passenger rail hubs, with the station being served by Caltrain, VTA, Capitol Corridor, ACE, Amtrack, and future services that will include BART, California’s High Speed Rail and a proposed airport connector to the San José Mineta International Airport. The Diridon Station Redevelopment Plan is a project that transforms a small and aging transportation hub into the "Grand Central Station of the West" capable of serving over 100,000 passengers a day. The partner agencies working together on the redevelopment planning are the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA), Caltrain, City of San José, California High-Speed Rail, Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC), and BART.
The redevelopment plan is advancing station design, community outreach and a business case analysis. The partner agencies began working as a Joint Powers Advisory Board in 2024, which has been transformed via a Cooperative Agreement into a Steering Committee that begins meeting in 2025 to better set the Diridon Station Redevelopment Project on a course to delivery.
Meeting details, including meeting agenda and participation options, are hosted on the VTA website.
