SJFD Patriot Day 25th Year Commemorative Ceremony

The San José Fire Department is hosting a commemorative ceremony to honor the 25th anniversary of Patriot Day on Friday, September 11, 2026. Join us as we honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and recognize the courage, sacrifice, and service of first responders and community members. This free public event is open to everyone.

First responders will come together on Patriot Day to form a procession from South Market Street and West San Fernando Street to Fire Station 1 (255 N. Market Street). After the procession, there will be a brief outdoor commemoration ceremony followed by a reception hosted at and by the San Jose Fire Museum located next door (201 N. Market Street).

Parking
  • Attendees are encouraged to arrive early and plan for downtown parking.
  • Public parking is available in nearby garages and lots.
Street Closures
  • North Market Street will be temporarily closed for the 10:45 a.m. Patriot Day procession. As the procession advances toward Fire Station 1, streets along the route will reopen behind it under the direction of SJPD.
  • Following the procession, North Market Street and nearby streets surrounding Fire Station 1 will remain closed until approximately 12:00 p.m. to support the ceremony.
  • Please refer to the closure map for the procession route and anticipated road closures.

  • 11:10 a.m. Commemorative Ceremony at Fire Station 1 (255 N. Market St.)

About Patriot Day

Patriot Day is observed each year on September 11 as a National Day of Service and Remembrance to honor the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives during the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, as well as those who have died in the years since from illnesses related to their response and recovery efforts. On September 11, 2001, four commercial airplanes were hijacked and used in coordinated attacks against the United States. Two planes struck the World Trade Center towers in New York City; one struck the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia; and one crashed near Shanksville, Pennsylvania, after passengers and crew members attempted to intervene.

The attacks forever changed our nation and highlighted the courage, sacrifice, and dedication of first responders, including firefighters, law enforcement officers, emergency medical personnel, and countless community members who responded in the face of unimaginable circumstances. Patriot Day serves as an opportunity to remember those who were lost, honor the survivors and their families, and recognize the commitment of those who continue to serve and protect their communities. Through acts of service, remembrance ceremonies, and community gatherings, Americans come together each year to reflect on the lasting impact of September 11 and the importance of unity and compassion.
