San José is home to nine sprawling regional parks and over 200 neighborhood parks, many with reservable picnic areas for small or large group gatherings.

Located in some of the valley’s most picturesque surroundings, their natural environments are a perfect background for any special occasion. Given the large number of choices available, park staff can help you navigate our park system and find the best location for your event.

Activities That Require Additional Permitting

An event involving any of the following is considered a special event, and requires the submission of a SPECIAL EVENT APPLICATION.

Advertising that the event is open to the public
Amplified sound (more than a battery-operated low wattage speaker)
Needing to confirm date/time/location more than 6 months in advance
Selling of food, alcohol or merchandise
Selling of tickets to the event
Special set ups of stages, tents, barricades fences or other items

This 203-acre park has nine reservable and several first-come, first-served picnic areas. The park offers numerous water activities such as boating and fishing - NO SWIMMING! Lake Cunningham Park is home to Raging Waters and Lake Cunningham Regional Skate Park.

Alder Leaf is located near Parking Lot B. The site is semi-shaded and a short walk to the horseshoe pits and volleyball court.
