Around the Clock response
Artist: Sam Tubiolo (June, 2022)
Around The Clock Response, artist Sam Tubiolo’s mixed media artwork for Fire Station 37, pays homage to the work of the firefighters, with whimsical notes that connect with the Willow Glen community. Created in both sculpted high-fire ceramic tile and architectural window film, the artwork accentuates the building’s exterior with captivating imagery in sculpted ceramic tile depicting a pair of firefighters operating a fire hose with a forceful stream of water while a safe distance away from the firefighters, a child and a dog watch the work of these first responders with great interest. The tilework imagery wraps to the building’s front façade. The firefighter imagery then continues onto the building’s vertical window bay, depicted in translucent architectural film: by day, the imagery in the window bay both compliments the exterior ceramic tilework element and also enhances the upstairs hallways of the building as it is activated from the exterior by daylight; at night, the window treatment is backlit from within, enhancing the fire station’s night presence.
Tubiolo’s inspiration for the artwork came from his interaction with both community and Fire Department personnel at community meetings and ongoing throughout the project. Learn more about the artwork and artist Sam Tubiolo here.
