Riverview Wild
Artist: Morgan Bricca (2025)
Part of the River Oaks Regional Stormwater Facility, the Riverview Stormwater Garden was designed to capture and filter runoff from storm drains in the River Oaks community of San José. The stormwater basin ensures that water is naturally filtered before flowing into the Guadalupe River. This eco-friendly system removes pollutants, sediments, and debris through a natural filtration process, improving water quality and protecting local waterways. The garden features native landscaping, open green space, and walking paths with interpretive signs to help educate the public about the Guadalupe River Watershed and the environmental impact the stormwater facility will have. This public art project is a mural that further enhances the site for public enjoyment.
The mural is a sweeping portrait of the riparian landscape along the Guadalupe River. Known for her luminous large-scale works, Morgan Bricca designed a panoramic painting that crowns the stormwater pump building at the park. Inspired by the river’s living edge, the mural honors the essential relationship between water, wildlife, and native plants.
Each side of the building reveals different facets of the ecosystem, including the California beaver, gray fox, herons, quails, blue jays, kingfishers, mallards, jackrabbits, and monarch butterflies. Together, these species represent the biodiversity of the Guadalupe River corridor and the natural cycles of balance and renewal that shape the landscape. It also calls subtle attention to the restoration efforts that have made it possible to promote coexistence with the ecosystem.
