Camping with the Koi a Sold Out Success at Kelley Park

Post Date:08/10/2018

Camping at the Japanese Friendship Gardens at Kelley Park is a popular activity for San José residents. The inaugural Camping with the Koi sold out in just two hours. Sixteen youth and ten adults disconnected from technology, pitched tents in the Twin Oaks Picnic Area of Kelley Park and the Japanese Friendship Garden on July 21 and 22. Participants were exposed to outdoor skills and activities. Campers learned about BioBlitzes, and participated in cultural art activities by creating Gyotaku fish prints and Vietnamese Dream Boats. Camping with the Koi provides San José families the opportunity to camp close to home, with scholarships available to ensure all families have access to this unique nature opportunity. The successful program was made possible through partnerships with Keep Coyote Creek Beautiful, Santa Clara County Open Space Authority, Bay Area Wilderness and Chopstick Alley Art Group who all contributed staffing, fundraising and supplies.
