Philanthropist Hoang Kieu Donates Goods to Silicon Valley Strong

Post Date:04/26/2020 9:44 AM

Amid the COVID-19 crisis, underserved resident populations lack basic supplies, food, and resources to stay safe. Community leaders across the valley are stepping up to fill the gap, helping neighbors in need by donating time, talents, and critical resources.

Hoang Kieu is one of the latest philanthropic leaders to step up--donating 20,000 face masks, 2,000 bottles of hand sanitizer, thousands of noodle packages, and more than 1,000 bags of rice for community members struggling with food insecurity.

These goods help support the diverse cultural needs of our community and will be distributed to neighbors across the region by Second Harvest Food Bank, who operates 100 food distribution sites countywide. People in need of food resources can visit bit.ly/SVFoodDistribution for meal pickup locations and www.SiliconValleyStrong.org to give or get help.

Kieu’s generosity and commitment to San José began long before the COVID-19 crisis, supporting the San José community with nearly 6 million dollars over the years. When San José experienced devastating floods in 2017, Kieu pledged 5 million dollars to relief efforts to help get residents back on their feet. In 2018 he gave financial support for mobile home fire victims, and later, donations to support San José’s critical public safety, transportation, and affordable housing initiatives.

Residents, organizations, and business leaders across the valley are showing the character of our community through this crisis to keep Silicon Valley Strong and lift neighbors up to safer ground.
