FLASH REPORT #99 - COVID-19 Mitigation and Response

The following is information about the City of San José’s response to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) and reduce the number of people infected.

Updates on City of San José Services and/or Operations  

  • City of San Jose Proposed Operating Budget: The City of San Jose has released its Proposed Operating Budget for the upcoming 2020-2021 fiscal year. The City’s $4.1 billion 2020-2021 Proposed Operating Budget successfully closes a $71.6 million General Fund shortfall through a combination of a limited number of new revenue sources, expenditure reductions, and the strategic use of reserves and other one-time dollars. The City has also developed a contingency plan in the event that revenues decline further than anticipated. If needed, another $12 million in expenditure reductions have been identified and would only be brought forward in early fall for City Council consideration once more data has been received that indicates worsened economic conditions. The City Council is scheduled to finalize and approve the budget on June 16, 2020 with formal adoption on June 23, 2020.
