Safe Summer Initiative Grantees Serve 3,000 San José Youth
The Safe Summer Initiative Grant (SSIG) Program awarded $452,000 to 47 non-profit organizations, governmental entities and faith-based organizations who encourage healthy play and nurture positive relationships through youth programs and activities in areas with gang activity and violence. In 2018, the Department of Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services’ SSIG will fund 66 educational, cognitive, youth development, recreation, health and fitness programs to serve more than 3,000 youth with safe summer activities. With an additional $150,000 in one time funds, there is a 35 percent increase in the number of agencies awarded.
