"With the help of local authorities and our PRNS staff, we were able to find the missing person reported at Alum Rock Park with a search lasting 7 hours," said Senior Park Ranger Huy Mac, who has been working with the @CityOfSanJose for over six years.

On July 4th, a family was hiking in the early morning when one of their group members went missing. Once the authorities were aware of the situation, @SanJosePD, @SanJoseFD and our very own #PRNSBest Park Rangers began their rescue mission.

Thanks to the training, the use of search and rescue procedures and the coordination of all the search parties, the missing person was able to reunite with their family. Each team had their own individual tasks such as gathering information of the missing person, utilizing a K9 unit on-site, staying with the family who reported the case, and walking through all areas of the natural park. They even called in a search helicopter that contributed to the rescue mission in this open land.

Alum Rock Park was founded in 1872 and is one of California's oldest municipal parks. Alum Rock Park's 720 acres of natural and rugged beauty provides visitors with many leisure outdoor activities, including hiking, horseback riding, bicycling, family and group picnicking. Alum Rock Park recently reopened to the public after being closed for over three months due to COVID-19. Now all members of the public can enjoy the relaxation and solitude of Alum Rock Park.

@SJParksandRec Park Rangers are in charge of park management, maintenance, safety and accident prevention, enforcement, conservation, environmental protection and fire management. With all these responsibilities, Park Rangers have now added educating our community of the county guidelines and posting essential signage throughout the park with information on keeping safe during the pandemic.
